Helen Ruggieri lives in Olean, NY, and spent the summer of 2000 in Yokohama where she became addicted to haiku and haibun. She has had other haiku/senryu in The Daily Yomiuri, Manichi Daily News, Snapshots, tinywords.com and In Buddha's Temple.

behind the runner
puffs of used up breath -
in the frosty air

after he read it
he said to her, "I hate

for folks who can't drive
to garage sales

better than
a thousand cranes -
a thousand haiku

across town
a train whistles its way
through the dark
