Haiku by Deborah P. Kolodji

first rain
an empty desk
in the classroom fresh cement
we find a stick and write
  our names
mojave sunrise
light between my fingers
on the visor nest eggshells -
  the college acceptance
  envelope
orange sky
a soldier in Afghanistan
longs for home
