Haiku by Kay Grimnes

storm clouds
the distant buoy
of a lobster pot power outage
  a drip in the sink
  keeps time
mourning dove
the distant chime
of a church bell dusting of snow
  only the sweeper's
  spiral lines
soft rain
a tadpole wriggles
from its egg

Kay Grimnes teaches biology at Alma College in a mid-Michigan town of the same name. Appreciation of haiku has helped her biological observations become more acute and her teaching analogies deeper. She also enjoys weaving, gardening and writing.

She has had a number of haiku published in such places as Frogpond, Heron's Nest, Modern Haiku and others. She was included in the recently published collection New Resonance 3.
