Tagami Kikusha

Simply Haiku
Nov./Dec. 2004
vol.2, no.6

Tagami Kikusha (1753-1826) whose pen name literally means “Chrysanthemum Hut” was born in Chofu in Nagato (present-day Yamaguchi prefecture). She began to seriously devote herself to poetry after her husband’s early death (Kikusha was twenty-four) and, like Basho, travelled widely for the remainder of her life.

Here haiga are an accompaniment to a feature on her life and art work by Patricia Fister in this issue. As you read through the feature, you will be able to click on the images as Fister refers to them.
