Tanka: Alan Pizzarelli

From Tanka Blues:

a passing cloud
darkens the tavern window
—still thinking of her
i lift my beer mug
the coaster sticks to it

today I saw
my first nuthatch
............heading
..................down the tree bark
.....like nuthatches do

all day
cutting off
..............fishheads
....knowing nothing

..................... lasts

painting windows
i dream
of better things to do
still
painting windows

troubled
i gaze
at the silver maple
with its branches snow-bent
in spring
