Haiku ~ JoSelle Vanderhooft

 

Not even bone-tear cold  
Shakes my stubborn feet  
From these beaded sandals.  
  Fresh pomegranate
  Bleeds down my shirt---
Open heart surgery
Cricket hums on water  
Plop!  
Toad has a lily-pad grin.  
  Lover ghost,
  You are colder than
  The sea on my ankles.
Jack o' lantern smile  
Awkward-flecked with seeds.  
I do not cry at parties.
