HAIBUN
Flight to Beijing
Bob Lucky
Five in the morning, the sound of my son's suitcase rolling down the sidewalk and the rain lightly tapping on the windows plays like a soundtrack to a kitchen-table scene: three mismatched teacups and my wife staring at a half-eaten bagel. I join her and we both wonder if he forgot anything besides us.

my kite runs out

Bob Lucky lives with his family in Hangzhou, China, where he teaches history. His work, mostly poetry and nonfiction, has appeared in various international journals. In his spare time he makes planned noise of a sort on ukuleles.
